BIO

Approachable and professional.

I understand how difficult it is. Recognizing that something is wrong is tough. Looking for help is tough. Talking about it with a stranger is tough. The intention of my practice is to use my training and experience effectively and efficiently. I aim to provide you with the knowledge, tools, and support to face the issue head-on and overcome it.

I graduated with an Honour's Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2003, before moving to Spain to pursue graduate studies in Clinical and Health Psychology and Experimental Clinical Psychology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I lived and worked in Spain for a decade before returning home to Canada, where I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I have practiced clinical psychology over nearly 20 years in a number of contexts, from the psychosocial rehabilitation of persistent and distressing mental illness, to mindfulness-based stress reduction training to primary care mental health and private practice.

Although the science of clinical psychology is essentially the same across client groups, a practice focused on men's health issues must also take in to account the underlying reasons why men are underrepresented in formal mental health settings. My goal is to create a place where no question is off-limits, where no thoughts or feelings are subject to judgement, where processes are clear and efficient and where we get the job done.

I look forward to working with you,

Simon Peter K Smith, C.Psych.Assoc.
